We held the 33rd Higo Water and Greenery Protection Awards Ceremony and Lecture.
The 33rd Higo Water and Greenery Protection Awards Ceremony and Lecture was held on October 7, 2019 (Mon.) at the large conference room in the 2nd floor of Higo Bank Head Office. This time, as a result of the selecting evaluation, we have awarded 6 groups.
In the opening remarks, President Kai gave the talk about the donations of six benches produced by Aso Chuo High School students using the thinned cedar cutting trees from the Aso Taikan no Mori to elementary and junior high schools in Kumamoto. He also explained about a total number of trees planted for each species of tree in the forest, and about hosting an event for the Women’s Handball World Championship on Saturday, December 7. Guest greetings were given by Deputy Governor Tajima of Kumamoto Prefecture and Deputy Mayor Tano of Kumamoto City.
Awards certificate was given from President Kai of the Foundation, awards shield from the editor-in-chief of Kumamoto Daily Shimbun, and a prize money from President Kasahara of the Higo Bank (also Vice President of our Foundation). The six organizations that won this year’s award was on the stage. The selection comments were given by Professor Emeritus Shimada of Kumamoto University.
After the ceremony, Prof. Makoto Taniguchi, Deputy Director of Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, gave a lecture entitled “Use and Conservation of Groundwater for a Sustainable Society”.
He explained about the standing points of “water” in the framework of SDGs and also introduced simply about the connecting relations that irrigation water for paddy fields (food) to recharge groundwater can be effectively used as a water resources in the Kumamoto area without any external energy supply.
